NICKNAMES Aph, Aphy. GENDER Female. AGE, BIRTHDAY Eighteen, August sixteenth. GRADE/JOB Senior in high school. Full time musician, part time cashier at the music store. MEMBER GROUP High school student. SEXUALITY Heterosexual. PLAY BY Kerti Pahk. PERSONALITY musically oriented || For as long as she could remember, Aphy has always been passionate about music. It was something that she genuinely loved, and she was ecstatic when she discovered that it was where her talents lay. Though she is typically soft-spoken and insecure, onstage is where she really feels she can shine without worry of being overshadowed. She can laugh and dance and sing freely, but the moment she steps offstage, the magic wears off and she's back to her old self. heartbroken & reminiscent || Unlike the typical teenage girl who says to swear off boys and dating after a few too many bad break-ups, Aphy has never been the type to start new relationships the second an old one ends. She has only ever had one boyfriend, whom she dated for several years. He kept her anchored to reality and provided her with strength when she lacked it, but he met an unfortunate accident and passed away. Losing him completely broke her heart, and she's never gotten over it. She frequently thinks back to the past and cherishes the memory of the time they spent together, wishing that time machines existed so that she may relive those memories. quiet & reserved & introverted || A majority of the time, she likes to pass her days as an obscure wallflower. She finds that she prefers to spend her days either by herself or with a very small group of friends. Though she is slightly more talkative around friends, communication with others has never been her forte; she relies on her music as a means to share her feelings. She prefers to speak as little as possible because she feels that her attempts are always unsuccessful. insecure & pessimistic & sensitive & doubtful || |
loyal & sympathetic & committed & kind || It make take some time to get used to how she functions, but once a friendship is established, she proves to be quite worth having around. She tries her best to relate to her friends and will be trustworthy through and through. Part of her is desperate to be liked, but the other part knows that being betrayed by a friend is terrible, therefore she would never want to do it.
cautious & selectively oblivious & stubborn ||[/i] After a lot of pain and angst, Aphrodite has walked away with at least some sense of self-preservation. However, let it be noted that it does not mean she's strong or durable by any means. It's quite easy to hurt her, but she has a habit of being selectively dense when she innately senses the truth may leave her in poor condition. She is also stubborn about certain things, and that trait especially comes into play when her beliefs are being challenged.
honest & expressive ||[/i] The one thing that she is quite reliable for is the truth. She may not disclose all the details, but she rarely tells fabricated tales. This stems from her fear that she's so flawed that being dishonest will only contribute to making her more hateful. Unfortunately, words don't always come easily to her, and that is when she turns to music again to express what she would like to say.
dependent ||[/i] The one thing Aphy has never been is independent. She doesn't rely on numerous people for survival, but the choice individuals she does rely on have the ability to make or break her. She needs them for strength and stability, but they also hold the power to make her feel utterly miserable with a single word.
HISTORY Consistence can be considered a blessing for those who find that change only brings about bad luck. Such a saying applies to the life of Aphrodite Ehmrandt. She was born to Geraldine and Henry Ehmrandt on August sixteenth, and they told her that the moment they saw her, they had this epiphany that Aphrodite would be the perfect name for her. To this very day, she doesn’t think she’ll ever be able to understand how they foresaw love and beauty in her future, but she won’t question the blinding effects of parental love on one’s ability to perceive reality. Contrary to popular expectation, she is not so dreadfully lacking in confidence that she doesn’t believe she’ll ever find love. She certainly lacks faith in herself, but what matters more is the fact that the only boy she has ever loved and ever will love is gone.
To make matters a little less confusing, it is necessary to turn back the pendulum. Her childhood was normal. No confusion about that. Some people like books. Others like sports. Aphrodite loves music. She hummed and sang before she could speak; she knew how to properly hold a guitar before she could walk; she knew the C-scale before she knew the alphabet. Music was practically her life. She’ll also vouch for the fact that it was just about that only thing that she was particularly good at. Schoolwork was never really her forte. The stuff she studied just wouldn’t stick in her head, and she can’t apply knowledge that she doesn’t have for tests. Sports were never really her thing either. Her stamina was rather low, her aim when throwing was always a little off, and her strength was lacking. That only left the arts, and of the several factions that art can be subdivided into, music was what she loved the most. She was always told that she was a young prodigy when it came to music, and it seemed befitting. She began learning a few instruments at once when she was only in grade school, and now, she’ll proudly stake claim to be familiar with string instruments like those you’d find in an orchestra, guitar, piano, drums, flute, harp, and she has a very, very basic knowledge of most other instruments because there are only oh so many ways to play a variety of instruments. She even took voice lessons for a little while, but once she felt her intonation was perfect, she stopped in favour of picking up yet another instrument.
Then came the most memorable year of her life. There are those moments in life when you have a most important person in your life, and for her, that person was her first and only boyfriend, Gavin Ashbury. They met when they were thirteen, and it was one of those really cliché moments when all of the sudden, they just knew they were perfect for each other. There was electricity between their fingertips, the sparks flew, and they were in love. Most people say thirteen is too young to know that you’re in love, but she’ll tell you that no other word could describe what they felt. An attempt at simple friendship ended when he asked her out a month after they met, and their parents will support claims that they were nearly attached at the hip.
Middle school had gone by in a flash, but high school sort of gave her a slap in the face. She didn’t know the reason back then and she can’t say she knows it now, but she was targeted for bullying. Maybe people didn’t like the way she dressed or acted, and maybe they didn’t like her in general. People were always telling her that she was some sort of freak who was wasting space, and even though she tried not to listen to them, it could get hard to ignore when the words felt like they had a tangible presence that was trying to choke and smother her. She fell back on music and Gavin, and sometimes she really believed that as long as she still had them, she would be okay. She would make it through four harsh years. Everyone knows nothing is ever that simple though.
For three blissful years, Aphy’s relationship thrived and gave her support, and it reached its peak during her seventeenth birthday. Instead of a fancy party, she had wanted to spend the day with her loved ones, and when she was finally alone with Gavin, he slipped a simple but pretty silver ring with cubic zirconium scattered around its circumference on her finger, swearing that someday they would grow up and get married, and he would give her a real diamond ring instead. The memorable moment seemed to promise a bright future, and her luck seemed to change from bad to good when she was recruited to be the guitarist and back-up vocalist of a band.
Things were finally going right until the bad news that was waiting in the shadows reared its ugly head. One night, Gavin was walking home after dropping by her house for a visit, and he became another number in a statistic about hit and runs. He was hospitalized immediately and the entire time he was in critical condition, she stayed by him, wishing and praying that he would wake up and smile at her and tell her that everything would be okay. Her wishes and prayers were answered with a long, monotonous beep, and then it felt like her entire world had crumbled. She withdrew from the world and couldn’t summon up the will to do anything but mope at home, constantly questioning why she just had to pick that day to make him stop by her house or why she wasn’t generous enough to invite him to stay the night instead of heading home alone. Her misery gathered together and eventually she attempted suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills a week later. The attempt was in vain because she was found and hospitalized, and when discharged, her parents immediately sent her to a therapist to deal with her newfound depression. The rest of her time spent being a seventeen year old revolved around being forced to go to school, taking antidepressants, reluctantly meeting up with her therapist after school, and playing music because it was the only thing that had her feeling decently alright. The only highlight of her life was that the bullying ended when news of what happened got around, but the pitiful glances sent her way made her even more miserable and odd than before. The only time she wanted people to look at her was when she was onstage and playing music; when offstage, she wanted to fade into the background and hide from scrutinizing or pitying looks.
By the time she turned eighteen, she asked for her birthday present to be an end to her therapy sessions. In a long, drawn-out discussion, she pointed out that taking Prozac and having to meet up with a therapist only worsened her depression rather than curing it because it had her feeling like some sort of freak. The solution was to allow her to cope using her own means instead of forcing her to pop pills and rant to a stranger. She wanted music to make her better, and though her parents were reluctant, they eventually agreed. Nowadays she’s often hanging around in the music rooms every chance she gets, and it’s rare to see her without an instrument outside of school. Her other senior peers may be thinking of prom and graduation, but she is more interested in spending the last days of her high school career in peace.
