Dante quickly wrote the name Samuel on the cup before passing it off to his co-worker. He worked on taking the next one after Samuel walked away. It was an assembly line almost; take order, write name, pass, take order, write name, pass, and repeat for five oh so hours. The rote actions of his jobs were boring and certain customers attitudes were less then pleasing.
"Welcome to The Brew how may I help you?" Dante said, giving a patronizing grin.
His mind seemed to be silently chanting the mantra, suck up, smile, tips tips tips, as if to keep him slamming his his head into the marble counter top and running away with the money in the register. People seem to develop the irrational notion that the coffee in the store would just come in a minute, but that wouldn't happen when the guy before you decide to come up with an order that was developed for Starbucks. Hell, he didn't know half thee things they request until after he got the job.
The normal lunch break rush was slowing down and it was for his break to start. He gave his co-worker a quick nod, before walking to the back room. It was rather cramp with cups, pouches of coffee beans, and supplies that couldn't be kept in the kitchen. With his elbow bumping a shelf here and there, Dante was able to remove his apron and grab his coat, along with a book left collecting dust in the room. He then made a beeline for the glass door, only making a pit stop to grab a cup of tea.
Stepping outside, he was greeted by a nice breeze. It was starting to get cold, but patio outside was far more quiet and spacious then inside the store. He settled in the wrought iron chair near the corner. Dante use the cup as a hand warmer, the flipped collars of the pea coat was enough to cover his neck and block the wind. He idly flipped through the pages with a vague recollection that he read it some time ago. |

hover all over this table baby [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f8f8ff; border: #634b7d solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;][classy=reveal] this life is just a game The day started off well for Quinn, as it always did. Everything about her life from the views of others was picture-perfect. Though her family was not rich or elegant by any means, she managed to keep up her appearance to match and rival those of great wealth. Quinn used her friends and their fortunes to obtain clothing, makeup, and accessories. She used her friends to seem as if she had things together, and to show her as the sort of person everyone dreamed of becoming. A role model for those younger than her; a hero, a friend to all, and a person you could trust.
Well, trust until you turned your back on her. Quinn was friendly to those who still believed she was a good person at heart. Her warm smiles and sunny, optimistic facade was extremely believable, and not a soul seemed clued in on her past. None questioned that she had simply taken over running the school because she was smart, and lovable, and liked by all. They did not know the hours of lying, of gossip and eavesdropping and blackmail bundled up into the subconsciousness of the school. They did not have to believe the cover that Quinn used, but they ate her story up in a heartbeat. After all, who did not trust the innocent little Asian beauty?
The Queen herself smiled as she stepped up to the counter. She frequented here once every few months or so, always on the weekend, in an effort to maintain her composure and dignity. Everything she had ever faced, every secret buried deep beneath her past follies and fortunes, it could all be relieved by a cup of coffee and a few quick words in regards to her best friend in the whole world Robin Ernest. That college sweetheart who was absolutely the best acquaintance any could know. Just thinking that she could convince herself of her words made Quinn feel a bit sick.
"Two caramel mochas, one with an extra swirl of whipped cream and extra caramel to top it off."
Though it was a chilly Saturday just past lunch, and Quinn found the act of her noon coffee to be relaxing. She took both cups and walked outside, picking a table in the crisp autumn air. Though she did not enjoy biting weather, she was more comfortable being cold than hot, and sitting outside allowed her to pay a proper tribute to her dear old school friend. Adjusting her scarf a bit, which was gold and red and resting atop her soft beige blouse, she set both cups on the table and tried to bring about a convincing smile. Grabbing the cup with the extra additions, she raised it out to her side.
"That she might burn with the sweet joys of all she has been given by me, and relish the fact that I will always win."
Flipping the cup over, she let the coffee spill out of the hole in the lid, being careful not to let any splash up on her skinny jeans or her brown knee-high leather boots. The cup now empty, she set it back where it had originally been placed, and took her own cup, sipping at its warmth with great relief. Quinn could feel herself being watched by curious passersby, but she could not care less. Whatever they were thinking, they could never truly appreciate how poetic and symbolic she had just been as she made a mess of a perfectly good metal chair and spilled the mocha all over the store's patio. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] I saw the devil wrapping up his hands The Words:591Tag:QuinnThe Notes:She just made him die slightly inside xD Dante never used the term bitch lightly, as he never fosters judgement on someone before he gets to know them, but no one is perfect and so neither is Dante. He has moments where he just wants to know why someone is living and breathing the same putrid air as him, and other times he prays to whatever deity up in the sky that there isn't more of them, but it seems more likely that he should look to the person in the fiery pits for creating such a person. He doesn't like hating people so early, but when you're irrational and just a plain bitch he just has to have that thorn-in-the-side-I-want-to-shove-you-off-a-cliff. Which actually, should be a more popular feeling for him since he works in a coffee shop. Land of the bigoted and hipsters. He watched the girl pour the coffee down on the patio out of the corner of his eye. He wouldn't care if she was wasting her own money, but he did care when it gets onto the property of the cafe with a perfectly poetic quote to go with the mess. Dante couldn't help but already want to push her off a cliff.
He silently debated on what to do, he could kick her sorry ass out of the store's boundary, but she would probably whine and complain and then get his sorry ass fired. He could also just suck it up and clean it since he was always the one on cleaning duty. He really hated his job sometimes.
Sighing, he got out of his chair at placed his book on the table. Fuck if he's clocking in early, he was hoping to quickly clean and get back to his fake reading. It seemed like a furnace when he stepped back into the shop to grab a rag. The sudden temperature difference made it intolerably hot. Going to the back, Dante grabbed one of the rags they used to clean tables and replied, "Don't ask" as his co-worker shot him a questioning look.
Once out, he went straight to the table. He wiped off the chair as best as he could, and knew that whoever sat there next would probably get a bit sticky and smell like extra-fancy coffee, but it was good enough. He ignored the patio floor that was still damp and declared it was a lost cause. The girl seemed nice enough with an innocent look about her, but Dante had learned well enough to never judge a book by its cover. Especially a book that goes and ruins you lunch break after a hectic day of work by deciding to go and poor coffee anywhere because she wasn't the one that needed to clean it.
"If you happen to ever feel like doing your lovely, poetic, satanic ritual of wasting coffee, please do it on the street. Thanks."
Dante gave her an overly sweet smile, and walked back to his seat. He carelessly toss the rag onto the table and once again turned back to his book. He flipped carelessly to any page and started to read. He wondered if he should have held his tongue that time. It wasn't as if she could threaten him living hell in school, but she could whine and bitch and make his life sad for the next fifteen minutes or so. Why did he have to put his foot in his mouth? He could have just walked off and played it cool, he sighed softly regretting his course of action already. |
